Phillly Home Movie

Producer: Deborah Rudman and A.Q. Quintero

What are the things that make living in Philadelphia great and what are the things that make people want to scream? Two friends have a conversation in the form of letter writing about the most loved and most hated aspects of our city. We get a closer look by interviewing neighbors answering these questions. Using super 8 film (commonly associated with home movies) to evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia creates an intimacy and familiar aesthetic encouraging the viewer to relate on a more personal level than video alone as a means of understanding and connection – it is just like watching someone else’s home movies!

Adrian "Q" Quintero is an artist, filmmaker and 1/3 of the video keyboard band Maple Rabbit. Quintero was awarded a Leeway Foundation Art and Change grant for a short documentary dealing with issues of gender queer identity. In the past Quintero has collaborated on documentary-based projects with the Termite TV Collective. Creating intimate pieces in both video and art, Quintero is driven to explore the intersection of personal stories and larger social issues.

Deborah Rudman is co-producer of numerous independent video projects presented in festivals and on national television. By day, she is Media Coordinator for DUTV, Drexel’s educational cable channel in the City of Philadelphia. She has also served as facilitator of Scribe Video Center's Documentary History Project for Youth. By night, Ms. Rudman is Co-Director of the Termite TV Collective. She maintains a keen and active interest in social issues and personal communication through visual media.
