Face to Face: Encounters Between Jews & Blacks
Producer: Laurence Salzmann

The project "Face to Face: Encounters between Jews & Blacks" grew out of a collaboration between the museums of American Jewish History and African American History called Bridges and Boundaries. The two institutions believed the project needed a local component, and hired Laurence Salzmann, a Jewish American photographer and filmmaker, to gather stories and images from Philadelphia's Black and Jewish populations, who discussed their experiences and perceptions of the other. Believing the stories he documented nearly two decades ago remain relevant, Salzmann has married some of the original interviews with pictures he took at the time.
Laurence Salzmann, a Philadelphia photographer/filmmaker, has been making films and photographs for the past 50 years. He's most noted for his works in Romania and Cuba.
